Domenico Beccafumi
Holy Family with the Young St John and Donor, c. 1528, oil on panel

The bedchamber was the primary destination for objects of a devotional nature, Madonna and Child tondos being the most popular such items. This tondo by Domenico Beccafumi, purchased after Hornes death, still has its splendid original carved and gilded frame. Very close in style to that of Michelangelo’s Doni Tondo in the Uffizi, it can be attributed to the workshop of Giovanni Barili.
