About us
Horne's Foundation
Horne’s bequest led to the creation of a Foundation and a Museum whose purpose is to promote and display for public enjoyment the rich art collection put together by this English scholar and further expanded with artefacts acquired by the Foundation’s Board.
The museum opened to the public in 1921 thanks to the work of Carlo Gamba and Giovanni Poggi, who had been Horne’s friends and were the first members of the Foundation. Since then the Foundation has been committed primarily to making the collections, archive and library accessible to the public, and to promoting such initiatives as study conferences, lectures, exhibitions and scientific publications.
The Education Department was established in 2002, offering itineraries and workshop activities for schools, families and adults, training courses for teachers and publications.
Its Archive and the Library, its temporary exhibitions, its educational activities and its intense research activity have made the Horne Foundation a modern museum capable of meeting the challenge of communicating with its visitors.
