Collection of women’s accessories 14th-15th century

The materials in the collection, a great deal of which has yet to be studied in depth, include numerous items relating to the private lives of gentlewomen from the 14th to the 18th centuries, such as this very fine mirror in carved ivory from the Embriachi workshop. Barred from public life, women would express themselves through sewing and embroidery but also by cultivating the arts of personal beauty and cosmetics.
