Bernardo Daddi
Madonna and Child with Saints; Crucifixion, c. 1336-1337, tempera on panel
These two small panels depicting the Enthroned Madonna and the Child, and the other the Crucifixion with the pious women and soldiers were originally part of a portable diptych joined together by simple hinges. In the 19th century they were transformed into two autonomous tabernacles, clearly easier to sell. Purchased by Horne in 1906, these two paintings are attributed to Bernardo Daddi, within whose production they play a significant role also because of their excellent state of conservation.
