Pier Antonio degli Abbati

The panel is by the tarsia master Pier Antonio degli Abbati, and comes from the antique choir of the Basilica of Monte Berico in Vicenza. The master had received an order for 24 tarsia panels to be carried out for the choir of this convent. The work was completed in 1487 and the dossals remained in the Basilica until 1824 when, for he building of the new bell-tower, the choir and the sacristy were demolished with the consequent destruction of the 15th century furnishings.
