Round-Back Seat, late 15th-early 16th century, pine wood with walnut frames

The tub chair, of Classical Roman inspiration, was a style of chair reserved for the study of the Renaissance thinker and intellectual. It is shown in use in Antonello da Messina’s St. Jerome in His Study, a mid-15th century painting in the National Gallery of Art in London.
